topping ideas for pizza party

My kids and I have spent many nights making pizzas together with friends and family. We love customizing our pizzas and have come up with all kinds of combos.

We’ve also spent time mass cooking pizza for reunions, parties, church activities, etc. And we’ve found that a lot of the pizzas we make in our home are big hits at these parties too while being so simple to do!

So I thought I’d share with you some of our favorites so you can enjoy making them with your family and friends!

Pizza Making Guide

To make each of these pizzas on our list, you’ll simply start with spreading the sauce over the pizza followed by placing the toppings.

While most pizza toppings start with cheese then can be placed in any order, some might need certain toppings placed in a particular order. We provided a printable ‘Pizza Bake List’ guide at the end of this article to help you keep track of the order.

Since this is intended to be a guide for your guests as much as it is for you, they start off pretty simple but get more extravagant as you go.

At the risk of sounding click*baity, if you only try one from this list – it must be #10 – Honey Sriracha Chicken! This is the one that has people talking for days after a pizza party. It’s the best pizza nobody has had!

1. Cheese Pizza

Cheese pizza is fantastic all on its own or as a base for many different types of pizza. It’s so simple yet so delicious. To make it, all you need to do is to spread some pizza sauce and top with cheese.

My family prefers Mid’s Pizza Sauce and grating or slicing a fresh block of mozzarella cheese. But if you’re short on time, bagged shredded cheese is fine.

Shopping List:

1. Mid’s Pizza Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

2. Pepperoni

Every pizza bar needs a couple classics and pepperoni pizza is one of the top ones.

To make it, you simply make a cheese pizza and top with some pepperoni. Personally, the more pepperoni the better!

Shopping List:

1. Mid’s Pizza Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Pepperoni

3. Sausage

There are many types of sausage that you can buy and they all taste pretty good on pizza. Our family’s personal favorite, though, is pork sausage.

Sausage pizza is made similarly to pepperoni. You simply make a cheese pizza then sprinkle it with cooked sausage.

Bonus: For extra flavor, you could even put both pepperoni and sausage!

Shopping List:

1. Mid’s Pizza Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Pork Sausage

4. Hawaiian Pizza

Again, for Hawaiian pizza, you’ll start with a cheese pizza base then top with ham and pineapple.

When we make pizza, we like to take fresh pineapple and, using a pineapple spiral slicer, slice it into easy to manage pieces. It’s fresh, fun, and easy.

For the ham, you’ll simply get sliced ham and chop it or cubed ham from your local deli.

Shopping List:

1. Mid’s Pizza Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Fresh Pineapple

4. Sliced or Cubed Ham

5. The Kenna

My daughter came up with this one and it’s become surprisingly popular at parties, with or without the mushrooms.

Instead of traditional pizza sauce, you’ll baste the pizza with olive oil and sprinkle with minced garlic. Then you’ll top with mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, feta cheese, and (optional) fresh mushrooms.

Note: If using an outdoor pizza oven, anytime you use an oil based sauce, you’ll want to be careful to not place it too close to the flame as the oil can catch fire.

Shopping List:

1. Olive Oil

2. Minced Garlic

3. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

4. Fresh Basil

5. Feta Cheese

6. Fresh Mushrooms

6. Chicken Pesto Pizza

The chicken pesto pizza takes a little bit more prep work. You’ll start with a basil pesto sauce which can be any pesto sauce on the market, followed by mozzarella cheese. Then you’ll top with chicken.

For the chicken, we like to do one of two things: 1) buy a rotisserie chicken and chunk the meat, or 2) buy some regular breaded chicken strips (not nuggets) and cut them up. It all depends on your flavor preference.

Then you can top it off with chopped Roma tomatoes, chopped fresh onion, and canned artichoke hearts.

Shopping List:

1. Basil Pesto Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Rotisserie Chicken or Chicken Strips

4. Roma Tomato

5. Fresh Onion

6. Canned Artichoke Hearts

7. Supreme Pizza

For the supreme pizza, you’ll start off with a cheese pizza base again. Then you’ll top with pepperoni, sausage, chopped bell pepper, chopped onion, and canned olives.

Shopping List:

1. Mid’s Pizza Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Pepperoni

4. Pork Sausage

5. Fresh Bell Pepper

6. Fresh Onion

7. Canned Olives

8. Buffalo Chicken Pizza

If you like spice in your pizza, our buffalo chicken pizza is definitely the one for you.

To start with you’ll spread some spicy red hot buffalo sauce onto your pizza. We personally like to use Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wings Sauce.

Then you’ll top with mozzarella cheese, chicken chunks, blue cheese chunks, and green onion. Then to finish it off, you’ll drizzle some creamy buffalo sauce over everything. Trust us, this really puts the pizza over the top and is well worth it.

For the chicken, you can use rotisserie chicken, but we recommend using regular breaded chicken strips for better flavor. And for the creamy buffalo sauce, we like to use Moore’s Creamy Ranch Buffalo Sauce.

Shopping List:

1. Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wings Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Rotisserie Chicken or Chicken Strips

4. Blue Cheese Chunks

5. Green Onion

6. Moore’s Creamy Ranch Buffalo Sauce

9. BBQ Chicken Pizza

Who doesn’t love a good BBQ? And it even tastes great on pizza.

For the BBQ Chicken Pizza, you’ll simply start by spreading BBQ sauce on your pizza. We prefer Sweet Baby Ray’s Original BBQ Sauce.

Next you’ll top with chicken chunks. It can be either rotisserie chicken or breaded chicken strips depending on your preference.

To really add to the flavor, we like to add bacon. There really is no substitute for real bacon so we recommend cooking up some fresh bacon that’s more on the thicker side and crumbling it.

Then to finish it off, you’ll top it off with chopped onion and optional blue or Feta cheese.

Shopping List:

1. BBQ Sauce

2. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

3. Rotisserie Chicken or Chicken Strips

4. Thick Cut Bacon

5. Fresh Onion

6. Optional: Blue or Feta Cheese

10. Honey Sriracha Chicken Pizza

Our Honey Sriracha Chicken Pizza has become a party favorite at our house.

For the sauce you’ll start by drizzling honey side to size then swirling some sriracha in a circle starting from the middle and working your way out. Then top with mozzarella cheese.

Next you’ll top with chicken chunks. Again, you can either: 1) buy a rotisserie chicken and chunk the meat, or 2) cut up regular breaded chicken strips. Then you’ll top it off with green onion and cilantro.

1. Honey

2. Sriracha Sauce

3. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

4. Rotisserie Chicken or Chicken Strips

5. Green Onion

6. Cilantro

11. Dessert Pizza: Easy Cinnamon & Sugar Pizza

I love a good dessert pizza and this one is so easy yet delicious.

You’ll start by spreading melted butter on your pizza. We use approximately 2 tbsp of butter for a 12-inch pizza.

Then you’ll mix cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle it over the butter. Then you’ll finish it off by drizzling with a little bit of sweetened condensed milk.

If using an outdoor pizza oven, we keep the temperature on low while cooking and place the pizza away from flame to prevent the butter from catching on fire.

Shopping List:

1. Melted Butter

2. Cinnamon

3. Sugar

4. Sweetened Condensed Milk

12. Dessert Pizza: Nutella Pizza

Nutella is a great topping for many different foods and it’s amazing on pizza. What’s fun about Nutella is you can choose so many toppings to go with it and make all kinds of combinations.

For this pizza, you can start by putting it in your crust by spreading it in a ring about half an inch from the edge of your dough and folding it over. Either way, the next step will of course be to spread some Nutella on the top of your dough.

After that, the skies the limit on what you can put together.

You could do a classic strawberry and banana combo by slicing up the fruit and laying it on top of the Nutella.

Or you could do a s’mores version by topping with mini marshmallows and crushed graham crackers. You could maybe even drizzle a little peanut butter on top for a little extra pop.

Check out our shopping list below for ideas on what you could do with your Nutella pizza:

1. Nutella

2. Cream Cheese Spread

3. Bananas

4. Strawberries

5. Sliced Almonds

6. Mini Marshmallows

7. Crushed Graham Crackers

8. Chocolate Chips

9. Coconut Flakes

10. Powdered Sugar

13. Brazilian Style Nutella Pizza

If you’re looking for something truly unusual to do for your pizza party, this pizza is the one for you.

I learned of this pizza after my nephew served a mission in Brazil. It may sound odd but it was surprisingly delicious and is very popular in Brazil. It was definitely a hit at our house.

This pizza is basically like a typical pizza of your choice (cheese, pepperoni, sausage pizza, etc) but the crust is stuffed with Nutella.

You’ll start with the crust by spreading a thick ring of Nutella about half an inch from the edge of the dough. Then you’ll fold the edge of the dough over the ring and seal it with a fork. Seal it the best you can to prevent the crust from coming open during cooking.

Now it’s time for the fun part – putting toppings on your pizza!

I recommend keeping it simple for your first time trying this out by going with a classic pizza flavor such as cheese or pepperoni. In this case you’ll simply spread some pizza sauce on your crust, sprinkle some mozzarella cheese, and maybe spread some pepperoni and you’re ready to cook your pizza!

While it doesn’t taste exactly like how my nephew had it in Brazil, it still tastes pretty close and it’s delicious. One note when preparing this pizza is to lay the Nutella on thick to really get the flavor of it.

Shopping List:

1. Nutella

2. Mid’s Pizza Sauce

3. Mozzarella Cheese (Block or Shredded)

4. Pepperoni
