Portable Pizza Ovens
Ooni Karu 16
The Ooni Karu 16 is a very impressive oven. Ooni continues to improve it’s pizza ovens with great features. Here’s a few highlights of it’s features.
Built-in Thermometer
The Karu 16 features a thermometer that’s built-in. This allows you to easily see the temperature of the oven at any given time. No need for an infrared thermometer.
Hinged Glass Door
This is a big deal. The glass door on the Karu 16 allows you to retain the heat and see your pizza cook. The glass is also designed to prevent clouding. Previous models made you take the door off every time you wanted to access your pizza.
Optional Natural Gas Burner
There aren’t many options for natural gas pizza ovens. Ooni made a natural gas burner for the Karu 16 so you can safely hook it up to your home’s gas supply.
Pros
Cons
The Karu 16 is a very well rounded oven. It’s a little smaller inside than the Koda 16, but for me the size is perfect. This oven is technically portable, but is built more to set up and leave it there. Read our full review of the Ooni Karu 16 pizza oven.

Bertello
Most people know about the Bertello outdoor portable pizza oven because of their time on Shark Tank. But I had cooked many pizzas on mine well before owners Eric and Andy Bert made a deal with Kevin O’Leary.
What most people don’t know is that the Bertello pizza oven is the only portable pizza oven with the ability to cook with wood and propane at the same time. That’s correct. While other portable pizza ovens can cook with wood OR propane, Bertello can use both simultaneously.
This makes Bertello a great choice for anyone who wants to cook authentic wood-fired pizzas, but wants the temperature control convenience of cooking with gas. At the launch of the Bertello pizza oven, there were larger, non-portable, countertop pizza ovens that could cook with wood and gas at the same time, but they cost more than $5,000 at the time – instead of the very affordable Bertello gas and wood-fired pizza oven.
The one drawback to the Bertello portable pizza oven is that the cooking surface is so small. With only a 12.5-inch wide cooking surface, it is smaller than most “12-inch pizza ovens” that have a 13+ inch cooking surface. So, if you like the idea of cooking with wood and gas at the same time, but it sounds too small for you, you’ll be very interested in the Bertello Grande!

Bertello Grande
One of the biggest complaints we have about the Bertello Pizza Oven is that it’s too small. Now, you can get the Bertello’s wood-fired pizza taste and gas-fired convenience with a 16-inch cooking surface! It is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to cook large pizzas.
It can accommodate up to 16-inch pizzas and features a double-wall insulation design, so it retains heat well. Plus, it has a gas burner option, so you can use it with or without wood.
One of the most genius features on the Bertello Grande is the burner design. It has the flames going above the stone like normal. What’s unique is that the flames go below the stone as well. This keeps the stone hot while your pizza is cooking. This is huge. If your stone cools too much, you won’t cook the pizza properly.

Gozney Roccbox
The Gozney Roccbox is a very popular choice for anyone who wants to cook authentic pizzas. In fact, you could almost say that the Roccbox has a large cult following of loyal users. It seems that people that buy a Roccbox swear by it and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The Roccbox has a few features that stand out over other wood-fired portable pizza ovens.
First of all, for such a small oven it is surprisingly heavy. The good part is that it is the Roccbox has superior insullation to all other portable pizza ovens in its class. This means that you go through less wood too keep it hot. Plus, it has a gas burner option, so you can use it with or without wood.
The Roccbox also has a unique exterior that keeps the outside from getting so hot to the touch. This sounds great, but in my experience it still gets extremely hot. You might not get burned, but it’s painful to touch.
Finally, the Roccbox outdoor pizza oven has a unique, attractive look that many find to be a lot cooler than the boring design of most other portable pizza ovens.

Ooni Fyra 12
The Oony Fyra is the only wood pellet pizza oven on the list. I personally am not a fan of wood pellet pizza ovens, but many, many people swear by them. The nature of wood pellet ovens is that they are simple and inexpensive to operate. They also are small and ultra-portable.
I know people that still have an Ooni 3 or even an Ooni 2 and absolutely love them. They’ve learned how to use them and find that they heat up quickly and evenly, so you can cook perfect pizzas every time.

Ooni Karu 12
The Karu 12 is similar to the Karu 16, but smaller.
Both sizes offer multi-fuel options so you can cook with wood or charcoal for that delicious smoky flavor – or with the optional propane burner for easy cooking.
Both models feature a double-wall insulation design, so they retain heat well.
There are some notable differences.
For example, the Ooni Karu 12 can accommodate up to 12-inch pizzas, while the Ooni Karu 16 can accommodate up to 16-inch pizzas.
The Karu 12 is super light at only 26.4 lbs. This makes it a great choice for picnics, camping, tailgating, and any pizza party on the road. But, none of that takes away from awesome pizza parties in your own backyard.
What did Ooni did not make a built-in thermometer for the Karu 12 probably to keep cost down. Also, it has the option to add a propane gas burner, but not natural gas.

Countertop Pizza Ovens
If you want the full experience of cooking pizza with wood, you should consider a countertop or built-in pizza oven. These pizza ovens are meant to set in place and leave in place. Make sure you have a space dedicated for these options.
Gozney Dome
The Gozney Dome is a great choice for anyone who wants to cook authentic pizzas. It features a stone baking board and a stainless steel door, so you can get the perfect pizza every time. Plus, it has a propane or natural gas burner option, so you can use it with or without wood.
Authentic Pizza Ovens Pizzaioli
The Authentic Pizza Ovens Pizzaioli is a great choice for anyone who wants to cook pizza the traditional way. All of the Authentic Pizza Oven models are made in Portugal by old world artisans.
It has three layers of insulation to keep the oven hot inside. The innermost layer is brick and mortar which looks awesome. A layer of rockwool sandwiched between layers of refractory cement keep the inside hot and the outside cool. The cooking surface is made of fire bricks.
Since they are made of brick, mortar and refractory cement these pizza ovens are very heavy. You will need to make accommodations for lifting it into it’s destination place. It’s common to rent an engine hoist for this task.
Authentic Pizza Ovens has a bunch of options to choose from including some that are not as heavy.

Hey there, I’m Greg Palmer, and I’m thrilled to share my story with you. Together with my brother Tim, I run the website GoodLifePizzaOvens.com, and it’s been quite the journey!
Our roots run deep in a beautiful countryside where we spent our childhood surrounded by nature’s wonders. Those were the days of horseback rides, fixing fences, rounding up cattle, and the never-ending quest to catch chipmunks raiding the grain barrel. But among all the adventures, that one special summer stands out, etched in our hearts forever—a time we both cherish dearly.
